Hickson 44 – The Leo Quartet

Hickson 44, also known as the Leo Quartet, is a small group of galaxies in the constellation Leo at a distance of about 80 to 100 million light-years. Its most prominent members are NGC 3190, NGC 3193, NGC 3187, and NGC 3185. Particularly striking are their different shapes, ranging from a smooth elliptical galaxy to distorted spiral galaxies whose structures already reveal signs of gravitational interaction within the group.

Hickson 44, auch als Leo-Quartett bekannt, ist eine kleine Gruppe von Galaxien im Sternbild Löwe in etwa 80 bis 100 Millionen Lichtjahren Entfernung. Zu ihr gehören die markanten Galaxien NGC 3190, NGC 3193, NGC 3187 und NGC 3185. Besonders auffällig sind die unterschiedlichen Formen: von der glatten elliptischen Galaxie bis zu verzerrten Spiralgalaxien, deren Strukturen bereits auf gravitative Wechselwirkungen innerhalb der Gruppe hinweisen.
