SH2-155, also known as the Cave Nebula, is an emission nebula located about 2,400 light-years away in the constellation Cepheus. It lies at the edge of the large Cepheus B molecular cloud, a region of active star formation. Hot, young stars excite the surrounding gas with their intense ultraviolet radiation, causing it to glow. At the same time, dense clouds of dust create the characteristic dark structures that give the nebula its cave-like appearance and its name. The prominent “cave” spans roughly 10 light-years. Three telescopes were used to create this image: the Askar SQA-85 (SII/Hα), the RASA 11″ V2 (OIII), and the TS Optics 76EDPH (RGB stars).
SH2-155, auch Cave Nebula oder „Höhlennebel“ genannt, ist ein rund 2.400 Lichtjahre entfernter Emissionsnebel im Sternbild Kepheus. Er liegt am Rand der großen Molekülwolke Cepheus B, in einer Region, in der noch heute neue Sterne entstehen. Heiße, junge Sterne regen das umgebende Gas durch ihre intensive ultraviolette Strahlung zum Leuchten an. Gleichzeitig durchziehen dichte Staubwolken das Gebiet und erzeugen die charakteristischen dunklen Strukturen, die dem Nebel sein höhlenartiges Aussehen und seinen Namen geben. Die auffällige „Höhle“ erstreckt sich über etwa 10 Lichtjahre. Drei Teleskope waren an der Erstellung dieses Bildes beteiligt: das Askar SQA-85 (SII/Hα), das RASA 11″ V2 (OIII) und das TS Optics 76EDPH (RGB-Sterne).
