The image shows the region around vdB 30, an entry in Sidney van den Bergh’s catalog of reflection nebulae. In this image, however, the typical blue reflection components are not the main focus. Instead, the large-scale structures of hydrogen (H-alpha) and doubly ionized oxygen (OIII) dominate the scene. As a result, the region appears as a colorful web of reddish and bluish gas clouds, crossed by darker dust lanes.

Das Bild zeigt die Region um vdB 30, einen Eintrag aus dem Katalog der Reflexionsnebel von Sidney van den Bergh. In dieser Aufnahme stehen jedoch weniger die typischen blauen Reflexionsanteile im Vordergrund, sondern vor allem die großflächigen Strukturen aus Wasserstoff (H-alpha) und doppelt ionisiertem Sauerstoff (OIII). Dadurch erscheint die Himmelsregion als farbiges Geflecht aus rötlichen und bläulichen Gaswolken, durchzogen von dunkleren Staubbändern.
