M45 – Pleiades

In the constellation Taurus, this image shows the open star cluster of the Pleiades (M45) — a striking winter object that can be recognized with the naked eye as the small “Seven Sisters.” Surrounding the hot, young stars is a delicate, bluish glow of dust: not an emission nebula, but interstellar dust that reflects the starlight and creates the characteristic, filamentary structures. The cluster lies at a distance of about 440 light-years and spans roughly 2 degrees across the sky — about four full Moon diameters.

Im Sternbild Stier zeigt diese Aufnahme den offenen Sternhaufen der Plejaden (M45) – ein auffälliges Winterobjekt, das schon mit bloßem Auge als kleines „Siebengestirn“ zu erkennen ist. Rund um die heißen, jungen Sterne leuchtet feiner, bläulich schimmernder Staub: kein Gasnebel, sondern interstellarer Staub, der das Sternlicht reflektiert und die charakteristischen, faserigen Strukturen formt. Der Sternhaufen liegt in rund 440 Lichtjahren Entfernung und erstreckt sich am Himmel über etwa 2 Grad – das entspricht ungefähr vier Vollmonddurchmessern
